Police confirm mother killed, baby cut from womb

MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee Police confirmed Saturday that a pregnant 23 year-old woman was found dead in a basement and her baby torn from her womb "by force." Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn said the newborn boy is also dead, adding that the 33 year-old woman called 911 Thursday to say she'd just given birth but the baby wasn't breathing."During ensuing investigations, detectives determined the women was in fact not the mother," Flynn said. After an autopsy and further investigation, police returned to the home Friday. They found the 23-year-old mother fatally injured in the basement."Evidence at the scene indicated that she had been fatally injured there and that the baby had been removed from her womb, by force," Flynn said.Flynn said there's no evidence the two women knew each other and that officers are not t looking for any other suspects."I didn't think it was going to get this far," said Kaila Perez, who is friends with the suspect and insists that the woman had no reason to steal a baby. "She gave birth to the baby on the 6th, she had the baby in the bathroom.""She's pregnant. I mean there was proof she was pregnant. There was baby stuff in their house."Flynn said Saturday that the case could be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office this week.
