Sheila Lederer Entered The Twilight Zone - Jailed After Ordering Deputies To Arrest Her Mailbox, Screaming At Tree

Wellington, Florida (The Weekly Vice) - Sheila Lederer, a 32-year-old Wellington woman was jailed Wednesday after she allegedly asked police to arrest her mailbox, and screamed at a tree while high on Xanax.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, deputies were in route to Lederer's home for a welfare check when she called 911 to announce that "someone was hiding in her bushes."

When deputies arrived on the scene, they found Lederer screaming at a tree, telling it to "get out of here."

When a deputy told Lederer that that tree was not a person and was unable to talk, she demanded that the deputy do his job and arrest her mailbox. She then tried to climb a bush, claiming that someone was sitting in them and spying on her.

Investigators say Lederer admitted to police that she had been taking the prescription drug Xanax. Before searching her residence, officers asked if there was anyone else inside the home - she stated that there wasn't.

When officers entered the home, they found a 15-year-old and a one-year-old laying in a bed. The older child stated that Lederer had a drug problem and had been calling her the wrong name all week.

Deputies stated that the house smelled like urine and feces. Rotted food, roaches, and ants were found throughout the home.

Lederer was taken to Palms West Hospital, where she was detained and given a mental health evaluation. She was then arrested.

Lederer was booked into jail and charged with two counts of child neglect. She was released after posting $6,000 bond.

Both children in the home have been placed into protective custody.
