A shooting at a Seal Beach, California hair salon has claimed the lives of six victims, reports KTLA.

A total of nine people have been shot, according to the Associated Press, and Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Marc Stone says that their conditions are "undetermined."

The suspect is now in custody, and the AP reports he was stopped by police about a half mile away from the crime scene. Multiple weapons were also seized.

The shooting took place at Salon Meritage, and Los Alamitos-Seal Beach Patch notes that while most of the victims were found inside the salon, one was inside a car.

The entire Seal Beach police department is responding to the scene, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Here's background on the sleepy Southern California community, from the Associated Press:

The quiet beachfront city of approximately 25,000 residents identifies itself as the Gateway to Southern California's Orange County and is located about 30 miles southeast of Los Angeles.

It is home to Leisure World, a gated senior citizen community of 9,000 people, as well as the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station military complex. Two-thirds of the city's 13.23 square miles are occupied by the Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge.
