The Bible talks extensively about demons. The main characteristics being that they:
have intelligence: Ezekiel 28:3, 12 / 1 Tim 4:1
are masters of deception: Acts 16:16,17 / 2 Cor 11:15
empower psychic ability: I Sam 28:8 / Acts 16:16 / Isaiah 19:3
can talk [every language]: Matt 8:29 / Mark 1:23, 24, 34: 3:11; 5:7 / Luke 4:41; 8: 28 / Acts 19:15
Old Testament: 1 Kings 22:20-22; Job 1:6-12; 2:1-7; / Zechariah 3:1 ....etc
are subject to Christians: luke 10:19 [they cannot harm us and if we command them, they must obey]
They seek worship and thus, empower people with whatever psychic powers they seek and perform lying signs and wonders such as we see in the video below which is a supposed apparition of the Virgin Mary in South Africa. Such events are becoming more and more popluar as we reach the fulfillment of time
[**note: this 'apparition' could also be a result of Project bluebeam but we will use it as an example of the many deceitful works of demons as apparitions of 'Mary' are well documented throughout history]
The above is an example of how demons use their deceitful skills to fool people into worshipping them and not YAHWEH. Those witnessing this apparition will subsequently bow down to idols of Mary [a practise condemned throughout the Bible], hailing 'her' in place of YAHWEH where worship is due
Demonic Possession
These never start out as full-blown possessions
They have stages which usually start with some sort of oppression which leads to an attachment of some sort [this isolates the individual pushing them further into the demon's clutches]. This becomes more severe until there is total possession like we see in Mark 5:2-9:
" And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, Who had his dwelling among the tombs;
and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:
Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.
And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.
But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,
And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.
For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.
And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying,
My name is Legion: for we are many"
Demons cannot come in uninvited. They therefore trick people into opening doors for them. Judas is a good example, on the night he betrayed Jesus, he was possessed by satan himself. At some point, he had opened his heart to evil, possibly through his own greed, as we see in John 12:6, he was already a thief:
"This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein]
People can open doors in ways they dont expect such as severe anger:
Ephesians 4:26-27
"Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
Neither give place to the devil"
There are also the obvious ways of opening doors. Missionaries often experience people who are demon possessed in the extreme sense due to the magick and idolatry often practised in 3rd world countries
Scripture repeatedly equates idol worship with the actual worship of demons:
lev 17:7
"And they shall no more offer their sacrifices unto devils, after whom they have gone a whoring"
1 Corinthians 10:20
"But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God"
Magick and idolatry are just two of the practises that open BIG doors for the demons. The more it is practised by an individual, the wider the door opens. God gave us the ability to make choices, he also warned us what would happen if we choose to do the things that invite the company of demons
In the passage from Ephesians [4:27] above, Paul warns us:
"Neither give place to the devil"
The Greek word 'topos' is used which translates as 'place' - meaning 'commonplace', 'opportunity' or 'occassion for acting'
So, we are not to give demons 'occassion for acting'
Practises that are 'commonplace' to demons are:
Magick, idolatry, acting as 'medium', ouija boards, tarot cards, meditation etc
Most people aren't willingly going to let a demon in therefore, they use trickery, making the above practises [and others] seem attractive, even glamorous, their motive - to possess. When we see angels, they have bodies, demons however, need to use another's body to function, any animal or human will do...
Take Mark 5: for example, they practically begged Jesus to send them into the herd of pigs because even pigs are better than no body at all:
"And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them"
Mark 5:12
We can summise from the above that, the place where the demons dwell is worse than being in a herd of swine. In Matthew 12:43, Jesus describes their realm as 'a dry place'. They want to come in so badly, they are waiting behind every occult, new-age, psychic practise there is, with no exceptions. We will look at these practises briefly and then we will look at evidence of full-blown possession and HOW to overcome any form of oppression, attachment and possession using the power bestowed upon us by YAHWEH
The Passivity of Will ?
Ouija Board - this is made up of nothing but cardboard or wood, it has no special powers of its own
It's just a way to get people to invite spirits into them. You're told to 'free your mind and open up', to 'say in your heart that you want to hear from spirits' by doing this you're giving them everything they need - your permission
As we saw above, this can lead to the first stage of demonic possession, they may start harrassing you afterwards, you may start to feel like you're losing control or losing your mind and then soon, the little door that you opened, gives way to the demon[s] until you're under their control, sometimes without even knowing until its too late and you've acted in a way that either ruins your own life or somebody elses - DO NOT TAKE PART IN THIS PRACTISE - EVER New Age
Meditation - very popular New Age practise. Again, you're told to 'empty your mind of everything', 'be open to everything'. Again, this is all a demon needs - your permission. Any time you are asked to give up your will and be open, YOU ARE IN GREAT DANGER. Not only from nasty up front demons, but also from the more subtle attacks of those that pretend to either be your loved ones or some sort of spirit guide. This is sheer enchantment. Bewitching the victim into thinking that they're special, that the 'spirits' have chosen them to communicate with. This plays well with the human ego and the little door becomes a great BIG wide open door
All the meditation techniques say that you're to 'work on getting rid of your free will, to be completely passive' [called the 'Passivity of Will']. In effect, you're letting down your guard and allowing demons to affect you, even if it's only slightly at this point, demons will ue this 'state' to do something supernatural at this point. This could be a feeling of intense emotion or a vision or even voices, this makes people think 'Wow! this meditation trick really works' and they will then start to find out more, to go even deeper into meditation
New Age
This initial 'contact' with the 'powers' of meditation is kind of like the bait at the end of a fish-hook. The person will feel elated after even just a slight supernatural kick
As a person begins to go deeper down the meditation road, they are told that in order to get the most out of meditation, they need to call upon spirits. All the different meditation practitioners [Buddhists, New Age etc], have different versions of what/who these spirits are. For sure, none will tell you that they are demons!
Instead, they call them 'spirit guides' 'angels', 'arch angels', 'ascended masters' or even dead relatives
Left - some quotes from a meditation website, notice they are telling the person to ask the spirit in with intent
No matter how they dress the words up, they are all asking for the same thing - INVITATION
Psychics & Sceances
Sceance "And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:
The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.
And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.
And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers"
Acts: 16-19
Here we see that it was a demon giving this girl her 'fortune-telling' powers and when Paul cast it out, she was no longer able to work. So, people who 'tell-fortunes' or are classed as psychic, receive their knowledge from a demon
It's not really that hard to understand how a demon can tell us things about our lives and loved ones. It's not because they can read our minds. They can however, watch us. If we go back to the 200 angels that fell in the time of Jared, they were actually called 'the watchers' by Enoch. This is a good indication of how the angelic and the entire spiritual world works outside of our realm
This enables them to know things about us that nobody else knows. Thus, when you visit a psychic, who has massively opened up their own life to the influence of demons, they can then communicate through the 'medium' things about you that grab your attention instantly
Another aspect is that they can obviously communicate with each other. Say, for instance, you ask a psychic about something only your great-great-grandmother would know, the demon that was observing your great-great-grandmother knows whatever it is that you ask. They 'network' and, of course, they are around for the generations, this enables them to cover the whole world with their spiritual network
This explains things like sceances, when people go and are 'contacted' by dead relatives. There are 'familiar' spirits, which stay around a certain family for generations knowing all the comings of goings, tragedies and celebrations
Ghosts
There's some fakery going on right now in these TV shows but, there's also some genuine supernatural events taking place live on air. Some of the time, it can be because there's been some ritual taken place there in the past, not always satanic, sometimes it can be from a sceance etc
Demons are territorial. They go only where they've been told to [like we see above in Mark 5 with the pigs]
This is why sometimes, only certain rooms are haunted, because this where they sceance etc has taken place. BUT in most cases, it is not the house that is haunted, it's the person. Some people move from house to house, even city tto city, and all the houses that they moved into were haunted
In this case, it is because the person has opened up themselves to the demonic realm by their occult practises
In all these haunting cases, the demons are playing a game. They want you to believe a different version of the world than the one that is in the Bible. They want you to believe that the after-life is based on re-incarnation or a million other different versions, this is why there are truck fulls of books telling us what the after-life is really like - anything goes - but the Bible!
Beware the Lamb
It's important to know that all things the world sees as terrifying such as, ghosts and poltergeists etc, actually tremble at just the Name of the Son of God. If you are A Christian, you have outright power and authority over all things demonic:
" And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.
And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?"
