Gender confusion has made it to the mainstream and it has not bypassed the church.

Our purpose for this article is to explore the Biblical and spiritual dynamics of “cross dressing”. In part one we’ll examine from a Judeo-Christian worldview and on part two we will examine the spiritual dynamics behind this broken image phenomena.

In April 2010 GCM Watch told you about so called “Transgender women” and the Bible” . Among the widening spectrum of gender confusion are pre-operation “transgenders”, “drag kings” ,”drag queens” ,transvestic fetishism , and lesbians portray male personas i.e. butch; stud. From some professional sociologist and psychologist standpoints not every person that cross dresses is homosexual, however crossdressing/drag has been part of western gay culture. But does God approve of such actions?

A mainstream drag

Now days drag has gone mainstream in today society on the most part socially accepted.

Recently at the MTV Video Music Awards Lady Gaga appeared in drag as her male alter-ego Joe Calderone.

Female impersonator RuPaul’s VH1 reality show contest has lasted four seasons.

Some Hollywood male stars have taken on roles in drag. For example the late Tony Curtis in “Some Like it Hot”, Robin Williams in “Mrs. Doubtfire”, Flip Wilson as “Geraldine”, Eddie Murphy in “Norbit”, Martin Lawrence in “Big Momma’s House”, and Tyler Perry as “Madea”, a gun toting, loud mouth cussing, scripture misquoting scriptures, marijuana smoking elderly woman. All Murphy, Lawrence, and Perry playing female characters that are made in the image of the black mammy type, have made $100s million dollars on these types of movies, laughing all the way to the bank.

Female caricatures are seen as marketable, and socially acceptable, no longer the underground taboo it once was.

Religion puts on a dress

Gcmwatch posted an article called UFCM Convocation reprise Canaanite religious abomination on September 4, 2010 last year, in which Unity Fellowship Church Movement sponsored a drag queen contest. The contest was called “Bright Life: The Illumination”, which was headlined by Bebe Zahara Benet(pictured on the right) the 2009 winner of Rupaul’s Drag Race reality television show. Benetwho real name is Nea Marshall Kudi is a former male model from Cameroon, who got his first taste of drag while in Paris at a fashion show, when he asked to dress and walk the runway as a female at the last minute when a female model didn’t show up, it was the birth of him becoming a drag queen. Kudi describes his female persona as Bebe. As Gcmwatch touched on is that Unity Fellowship Church Movement had enter into religious sexual idolatry of the Canaanites.

Old Testament View of Cross dressing

Deuteronomy 22:5 says, “The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto man, neither shall a man put on a woman garments: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God.” This scripture enjoins the children of Israel against engaging in the perverse religious practice of Baal and Asherah worship. Baal worship incorporated men dressed as woman and take on the sexual role of female, and woman would dress as men and take on the sexual role of a male. Sexual orgies ensued as they believed this pleased their idols.

In Maimonides in his law code Mishneh Torah, had list cross-dressing prohibited by Deuteronomy 22:5, which forbid a man to wear clothes normally for a woman, and clothes normally worn by men shouldn’t be worn by women.

The Jewish Sages understood also the prohibition not just to clothing, but also cosmetic activities that maybe feminine in nature, therefore could not be practice by men, which is found in Nazir, ibid.; Code of Jewish Law Yoreh Deah 182.

Now some in branches of Judaism believe that during Feast of Purim, people can cross-dress for entertainment only for this celebration only, and not the use of promiscuity. However, majority of conservative Orthodox Jewish Rabbi’s and synagogues believe that cross-dressing for Purim is prohibited, and even a drag queen in today time would violate this prohibition(here).

In all cases the Old Testament and in Judaism forbids cross-dressing, and nowhere it could be found this practice acceptable in the Old Testament or in Judaism. But is the prohibition just a matter of Old Testament law no longer applicable?

The New Testament view

Although the Apostle Paul addresses this issue in 1 Corinthians 11:1-16, it is often misinterpreted. Most theologians are ignore this as a prominent strain in the Greco-Roman culture that influenced the Gentiles of that era.

Many of the new converts at the Church of Corinth were former devotees of mythological deities Venus, Poseidon, Apollo, and Dionysus. The issue was that some of the new converts in Corinth were coming into the church leaving there pagan gods, but were keeping their perverse behavior was associated with these gods. Some of the new male converts that worshipped Poseidon were still wearing there hair long in a feminine way and wearing veil to cover their head and face, which was connected to their former religion of Poseidon which promoted homosexuality(source).

With some of the new female converts at Corinthian Church, they were still cutting or shaving all their off hair and being unveiled to look like a man as they had done in their previous religion of Apollo and Dionysos; this practiced promoted lesbianism. In rare vase painting from Corinth it shows a woman dressed in satyr pants equipped with a male organ. The women who worshipped Dionysus would dance before this deity who had been raised as a girl and was himself called male-female and sham man( see here and here).

Apostle Paul is addressing issues that were more dominant in with the Gentile culture, than that of the Jewish culture. Paul in his evangelistic travels and planting churches among the Gentiles, finds homosexuality, lesbianism, cross-dressing, and sexual immorality more prevalent among the Gentiles than that of the Jews.

Paul was commissioned by Jesus Christ Himself to be an Apostle to the Gentile nations, to carry the Gospel to the Gentile world. Acts 26: 16-18 Jesus said to Paul on the road to Damascus, “But arise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee; Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee, To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

If you see Gaga doing it, you know its the devil, that would be a huge indicator. But you know some “Christians” will defend Gaga more than Christ because they don’t want to delete her songs off their iPhone.

I have heard many homosexuals make the argument that since they are not temple prostitutes that certain Scriptural references condemning effeminate and homosexual behavior don’t apply to them. But the only problem is the Bible calls our body a temple for the dwelling place for the Father and the Son, therefore we are to keep it holy. The only sex allowed is man + women and marriage anything else defiles the body (temple). Also gender bending and wearing clothing designed for the other sex is also a form of worship to the false god baal peor.

24,000 blacks living in Germany

Did you know that in the 1920s there were 24,000 blacks living in Germany? Neither did I. Here's how it happened and how many of them were eventually caught unawares by the events of the Holocaust.

Like most West European nations, Germany established colonies in Africa in the late 1800s in what later became Togo, Cameroon, Namibia, and Tanzania.

German genetic experiments began there most notably involving prisoners taken from the 1904 Heroro Massacre that left 60,000 Africans dead following a 4 year revolt of German colonization. After the shellacking Germany received in World War I, it was stripped of its African colonies in 1918. As a spoil of war, the French were allowed to occupy Germany in the Rhineland, a bitter piece of real estate that has gone back and forth between the two nations for centuries. The French willfully deployed their own colonized African soldiers as the occupying force. Germans viewed this as the final insult of World War I. Soon thereafter 92% of them voted in the Nazi party.

Hundreds of these African Rhineland-based soldiers intermarried with German women and raised their children as Black Germans. In Mein Kampf, Hitler wrote about his plans for these "Rhineland Bastards". When he came to power, one of his first directives was aimed at these mixed children.

Underscoring his obsession with racial purity, by 1937, every identified mixed race child in the Rhineland had been forcibly sterilized to prevent further " race polluting" as he termed it. Hans Hauck, a Black Holocaust survivor and a victim of Hitler's mandatory sterilization program, explained in the film that when he was forced to undergo sterilization as a teenager, he was given no anesthetic. Once he received his sterilization certificate, he was "free to go" so long as he agreed to have no sexual relations whatsoever with Germans.

Although most Black Germans attempted to escape their fatherland, heading for France where people like Josephine Baker were steadily aiding and supporting the French underground, many ran into problems elsewhere. Nations shut its doors to Germans, including the Black ones. Some Black Germans were able to eke out a living during Hitler 's reign of terror by performing in vaudeville shows.

But many Blacks, steadfast in their belief that they were German first, Black second, opted to remain in Germany . Some fought with the Nazis (a few even became Lutwaffe pilots!). Unfortunately, many Black Germans were arrested, charged with treason, and shipped in cattle cars to concentration camps. Often these trains were so charged with people (equipped with no bathroom facilities or food) that after the four day journey, box car doors opened to piles of the dead and dying.

Once in the concentration camps, Blacks were given the worst jobs conceivable. Some Black American soldiers who were captured and held as prisoners of war recounted that while they were starved an forced into dangerous labor (violating the Geneva Convention), they were still better off than Black German concentration camp detainees who were forced to do the unthinkable: man the crematoriums and work in labs where genetic experiments were carried out. As a final sacrifice, these Blacks were killed every three months so that they would never be able to reveal the inner workings of the Final Solution. In every story of Black oppression, no matter how enslaved, enshackled or beaten, we are, we find a way to survive and rescue others. Case in point, was Johnny Voste, a Belgian Resistance fighter who was arrested in 1942 for sabotage and shipped to Dachau. One of his jobs was stacking vitamin crates. Risking his own life, he distributed hundreds of vitamins to camp detainees, which saved the lives of many because they were starving, weak, and ill, conditions exacerbated by extreme vitamin-deficiencies. His motto was: 'No, you can't have my life: I will fight for it.'

According to Essex University's Delroy Constantine-Simms, there were Black Germans who resisted Nazi Germany, such as Lari Gilges, who founded the Northwest Rann -- an organization of entertainers that fought the Nazis in his home town of Dusseldorf -- and who was murdered by the SS in 1933, the year Hitler came to power.

Little information remains about the numbers of Black Germans held in the camps or killed under the Nazi regime. Some victims of the Nazi sterilization project and Black survivors of the Holocaust are still alive and telling their story in films such as Black Survivors of the Nazi Holocaust. But they must also speak out for justice, not just history. Unlike Jews (in Israel and in Germany), Black Germans receive no war reparations because their German citizenship was revoked (though they were German-born). The only pension they get is from those of us who are willing to tell the world their stories and continue their battle for recognition and compensation.

After the war, scores of Blacks who had somehow managed to survive the Nazi regime were rounded up and tried as war criminals. Talk about the final insult. There are thousands of Black Holocaust stories from the triangle trade, to slavery in America, to the gas ovens in Germany. We often shy away from hearing about our historical past because so much of it is painful. However, we are in this struggle together for rights, dignity, and yes, reparations for wrongs done to us through the centuries. We need to always remember so that we can take steps to ensure that these things never happen again.

Iranian Pastor faces execution for the sake of the Gospel of Jesus Christ

An Iranian pastor who has refused to renounce his Christian faith faces execution as early as Wednesday after his sentence was upheld by an Iranian court.

Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani, who maintains he has never been a Muslim as an adult, has Islamic ancestry and therefore must recant his faith in Jesus Christ, the 11th branch of Iran’s Gilan Provincial Court ruled. Iran’s Supreme Court had ordered the trial court to determine whether Nadarkhani had been a Muslim prior to converting to Christianity.

The judges, according to the American Center for Law & Justice, demanded that Nadarkhani, 34, recant his Christian faith before submission of evidence. Though the judgment runs against current Iranian and international laws and is not codified in Iranian penal code, the judge stated that the court must uphold the decision of the 27th Branch of the Supreme Court in Qom.

When asked to repent, Nadarkhani stated: “Repent means to return. What should I return to? To the blasphemy that I had before my faith in Christ?”

“To the religion of your ancestors, Islam,” the judge replied, according to the American Center for Law & Justice.

“I cannot,” Nadarkhani said.

Nadarkhani is the latest Christian cleric to be imprisoned in Iran for his religious beliefs. According to Elam Ministries, a United Kingdom-based organization that serves Christian churches in Iran, there was a significant increase in the number of Christians arrested solely for practicing their faith between June 2010 and January 2011. A total of 202 arrests occurred during that six-month period, including 33 people who remained in prison as of January, Elam reported.

An Assyrian evangelical pastor, Rev. Wilson Issavi, was imprisoned for 54 days for allegedly converting Muslims prior to his release in March 2010, Elam officials told FoxNews.com.

Nadarkhani, a pastor in the 400-member Church of Iran, has been held in that country’s Gilan Province since October 2009, after he protested to local education authorities that his son was forced to read from the Koran at school. His wife, Fatemeh Pasandideh, was also arrested in June 2010 in an apparent attempt to pressure him to renounce his faith. She was released in October 2010, according to Amnesty International.

Nadarkhani was sentenced to death for apostasy last September based on religious writings by Iranian clerics, including Ayatollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, despite the fact that there is no offense of “apostasy” in the nation’s penal code, Amnesty International reports.

In June, the Supreme Court of Iran ruled that a lower court should re-examine procedural flaws in the case, giving local judges the power to decide whether to release, execute or retry Nadarkhani. The verdict, according to Amnesty International, includes a provision for the sentence to be overturned should Nadarkhani renounce his faith.

Elise Auerbach, an Iranian analyst for Amnesty International USA, told FoxNews.com that an execution for apostasy has not been carried out in Iran since 1990. Nadarkhani’s sentence is a “clear violation of international law,” she said.

“The key is to keep up the pressure and to publicize the story because it obviously outrages most people,” Auerbach said. “It’s part of the pattern of persecution based on religion in Iran.”

Kiri Kankhwende, a spokeswoman for Christian Solidarity Worldwide, a human rights organization that specializes in religious freedom, told FoxNews.com that Nadarkhani was asked for the fourth time to renounce his faith during a hearing early Wednesday and he denied that request.

“We’re waiting to hear the final outcome,” she told FoxNews.com. We’re still waiting to hear what they’ve decided.”

Kankhwende said Nadarkhani could be executed Wednesday or Thursday.

“Iran is unpredictable,” she said. “We can’t say when it might happen. It’s a very real threat, but we can’t say when exactly.”

Officials at the U.S. State Department declined to comment when reached on Wednesday.Attempts to reach his attorney, Mohammed Ali Dadkhah, were not successful.

House Speaker John Boehner said Nadarkhani’s case is “distressing for people of every country and creed,” according to a statement released on Wednesday.

“While Iran’s government claims to promote tolerance, it continues to imprison many of its people because of their faith,” the statement read. “This goes beyond the law to an issue of fundamental respect for human dignity. I urge Iran’s leaders to abandon this dark path, spare [Nadarkhani's] life, and grant him a full and unconditional release.”

Father Jonathan Morris, a Catholic priest in the Archdiocese of New York and an analyst for Fox News Channel, said Nadarkhani’s case is “unmistakable evidence” that Iran is executing Christians simply because they refuse to become Muslims.

Morris continued: “Will President Obama, and the free world, allow the United Nations to continue in its cowardly silence on this matter?”

Murdered Teen Antonio Johnson's Kidney Donated To Sick Grandmother

A 15-year-old boy, who was declared brain dead after a drive-by shooting over the weekend, died from his injuries this week -- and his kidney was given to his ailing grandmother.

Antonio Johnson was reportedly walking into his West Side home with his mother Sunday when shots were fired from a passing vehicle. Johnson was shot in the head, and was on life support until Tuesday. His mother suffered a gunshot wound to her arm, but has since been released from the hospital.

The Chicago Tribune reports that earlier this year, Johnson's mother told her son that his grandmother was very ill, and needed a kidney transplant. The teen offered one of his own.

“And I told him, ‘Not if you plan on playing any sports,’” Annette Johnson told the Tribune. Antonio played football at Chicago’s Marshall High School. “I was like: ‘It’s cool. She’ll get one.’”

On Wednesday, doctors performed the transplant on Antonio's grandmother--who was paralyzed decades ago in a shooting, the Tribune reports.

Detectives told Fox Chicago they do not believe the teen or his mother were the shooter's intended targets, and the boy's former dean, Derrick Bass, said he was a good student and athlete.

“He was a very good student who hung out with a good crowd of kids and flew under the radar,” Bass told the Chicago Sun-Times.

A suspicious fire was reported in the Johnson residence prior to the shooting, and shots were reportedly fired at the Garfield Park home before Sunday's fatal drive-by, according to the Sun-Times.

On Sunday, the shots were fired from an older model white or cream-colored vehicle. No arrests have been made as of Thursday morning.

Michael Jackson to Dick Gregory: "Don't leave me, they're trying to kill me."

Michael Jackson had amassed nearly $400 million in personal debt, but still controlled billions in assets, future royalties on music rights, real estate and other holdings.

Jackson still co-owned-although it was heavily mortgaged - the infamous Neverland Ranch and surrounding 2,600 acres in pristine Santa Barbara County. Dick Gregory, the civil rights activist and natural health proponent who had been an advisor to Jackson for years, said, Jackson was often concerned for his own privacy and safety. Secrecy was also part of the life Michael lived. His close friend and attorney, John Branca, who is also co-administrator of Michael's estate, recently recovered $5.5 million that the artist had secretly squirreled away with occasional financial advisor Dr. Tohme Tohme, money Jackson wanted hidden away for a rainy day, perhaps to buy his next home.

"He said, 'Don't tell anyone about this money,'" Tohme told the Associated Press earlier this month. "But when he passed away, I told them I had this money, and I gave it to them."

Even his sister Latoya recently told London's Mail On Sunday that she feared Michael was killed by "greedy hangers-on" who preyed on the star:

I believe Michael was murdered, I felt that from the start," the 53-year-old said. "Not just one person was involved, rather it was a conspiracy of people. He was surrounded by a bad circle. Michael was a very meek, quiet, loving person. People took advantage of that.

The Powerless Church

I didn’t grow up in church, but in my neighborhood, churches where plentiful. I grew up in what we like to refer to as “the hood”. You know the story, high crime, drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, gun violence etc. I could go on and on, but like I said, you know the story. One would think that with the multitude of churches in my “hood” that they would have the power to affect some sort of change in the neighborhood. I’m not talking about the back to school, school supplies, or the Christmas and Thanksgiving baskets, because the drug dealers did that too! What I’m talking about is changing the environment through the love of Christ.
I’m not talking about taking over the community in Jesus name, or taking back what the devil stole. That is another article in itself. The church should let the people know that they love and care for them, by being there for them. Make them feel comfortable enough to come to the church with their needs. Not judging them, or making them feel guilty because they don’t, or can’t pay tithes, or are not “members” of that congregation. Growing up, the only time we saw the church folks was when they were either coming or going to service, or when they were made to pass out tracts to us during their “witnessing”. But where was the power?

I never paid attention to the sheer number of churches around us until recently, and it got me wondering. Why, with all these churches around in these neighborhoods are the neighborhoods steadily declining? My conclusion is that they have no power. They are impotent at affecting real change because the people don’t live in the areas where they worship.

. People drive in from 15 minutes and even up to an hour or two away. You cannot be an effective witness to someone who you don’t know. Is it possible to lead a stranger to Christ? Yes. But what do they do once they get there. This is why Christ set up his ecclesia, the true church which is a community of believers. They know each other, they trust each other, they go to each other with their joys, successes and failures. People don’t do that with strangers. That is why the church is impotent at affecting change in the neighborhoods they are in. They don’t know the people and the people don’t know them.

Where else in the world do you see people happily give away their hard earned money while not receiving anything for it? Why Are So Many Straight Teenage Boys Turning Gay After Joining The Choir?

Growing up in the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans way back in the late 70’s - early 80’s looked just like any other inner city neighborhood. Like many of you, my neighborhood also had a church on just about every other block, but there was something going on within my local church that impacted a few young men in a very damaging way.

Our local church was known for having some of the best preaching in the city, and the choir could go toe to toe with some of the more famous mass choirs of its day, but one of the ills of a mass choir is they attract masses of gay men.

Directly next door to me lived a very close and dear friend that I will refer to as Kerry. The interesting fact about Kerry was he was just a normal teenage boy, up until the time he joined 1st Thessalonians Baptist Church on Caffin Ave (in the Lower 9th Ward).

First Thessalonians Baptist Church featured the fiery preaching of Rev. Edmond G. Prevost, Sr, a very active, approachable, and humble servant of our Lord. His passion to grow this neighborhood church into vital resource for my Lower 9th Ward community came with a very unfortunate compromise; the choir director was a flamboyantly effeminate man.

My childhood friend joined 1st Thessalonians Baptist Church and became a very active member of the choir. After a while, he stopped playing touch football with the crew in the middle of the street and opted to only attend non-stop choir rehearsals. This strict regimen of rehearsals was a mandate of choir director Mr. Reuben, and my buddy simply fell in line.

We began to notice a gradual change in Kerry’s behavior and mannerism, from that of typically masculine, to the appearance of soft and reserved. His style of clothes changed, his friends changed, and the way he sported his hair dramatically changed.

The Chicken Or The Egg?

On my block we had a term called getting “turned out” which translated to say that someone had molested you, and now you’re gay. Someone in the choir had “turned out” my friend, but who was responsible?

Fast forward the clock from 1985 to 2011 and I now report that my friend Kerry is a very openly gay African American Man.

The reason why I wanted to share this story is because Kerry started out the same as all the other young men in my neighborhood, but I can place my finger on the exact moment he detoured down the path to a gay lifestyle.

Some would even argue that Kerry was already gay before he joined the choir at 1st Thessalonians Baptist Church, but I would present a very strong rebuttal to that thought process. He was just as normal as I was, I would know, because he was one of my closest childhood friends. Despite those who would discount the fact that a young impressionable man can be influenced by an openly gay man then please allow me to present my friend, who was introduced to a world of homosexuality.

Once again, I state that Kerry was a normal teen until he joined the choir that was under the direction of an openly gay man. It is my firm belief that when my friend embraced his new choir members over hanging with me and the crew, he also embraced the lifestyles of the gay men within that choir. He also decided at that moment to adapt the mannerisms of someone whom he considered to be a mentor, the gay choir director.

I don’t believe that Kerry was gay first; I believe that he was straight first, and then became gay. He submerged himself in a sea of feminine men, and as a direct result, he became one of them.

Maybe it’s The Choir Robes?

As you can image, I was very upset at losing my buddy to the lifestyle of “Church Gay” so in a last ditch effort to understand it I turned to my brutally honest uncle. This was a big mistake because his entire theory centered on the notion that there must be something in choir robes that made them gay. Then he progressed to his second offset theory that it must be something in the organ bench that made them gay. Like I said, turning to him was a very big mistake. It’s a good thing that I never accepted his theory of “Gay-volution” or I would have really missed the real issue of why straight teenage boys are getting turned out in church.

Our church choirs have always featured gay men regardless of the anti-gay message preached from the pulpit. Long before the debate over gay marriages, we as the people who sat in the pews have witnessed the marriages of ambitious pastors and openly gay choir directors on a routine basis.

In a quest to grow the congregation into a “Mega-Church” by exploiting choir members, pastors have existed in a visible contradiction by ignoring the life style of their choir directors.

In the City of New Orleans we had very famous, but yet obviously gay choir directors; some even went on to receive national acclaim.

Alvin S. Hadley - Gospel Soul Children

Phillip Britton – Greater St. Stephens under Bishop Paul S. Morton

Raymond Miles – Served as both a choir director and renowned gospel recording artist.


Alvin Hadley and the Gospel Soul Children changed the entire presentation and sound of gospel music in the 1980’s. This dynamic choir was loaded with some of the best voices in the city, which only aided in the spreading of the HIV virus that infected the group and took the life of its founder, Alvin S. Hadley.

Phillip Britton of Greater St. Stephens was very gifted in the art of directing a choir as well as a song writer. He is most noted for a very famous alter call song titled “We offer Christ to you” performed originally with Bishop Paul Morton. Likewise, in 1999 Phillip Britton was a defendant in a case in which the plaintiff (a 16 year old boy at the time of the incident) charged that Britton had sex with him over 50 times.

Raymond Miles, a favorite at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival Gospel Tent (also Essence Music Festival) is still considered by most to be one of the most influential gospel artists from New Orleans. Anyone who had the opportunity to see one of Raymond Miles performances came away with two realizations.

(1) Raymond Miles was very talented,
(2) Raymond Miles was very gay.

All three men are now deceased in which two of them (Alvin Hadley and Phillip Britton) both died of HIV. Raymond Miles death was surrounded with stories of a gay quarrel that resulted in his murder and carjacking.The one thing that all three of these men had in common (other than their questionable life styles) is the traditional Baptist church choir.

A Or B Selection Only!

Our young sons are very impressionable no matter if it’s Lil Wayne, Michael Vick, or Tonex, at some point we will have to address this presence of feminine acting men within our congregations. If a young man decides to join the gay life style after he has already reached the age of adulthood then the guardian of that young man is not at fault for his life choices. Fault is only assigned when parents allow gay men in church leadership to seduce their sons into a lifestyle that is clearly banned in the scriptures.

We can no longer tolerate the gay choir director anymore then we can tolerate the masculine prophetess, somehow this has to stop. Within our congregations are men and women with sub-agendas, ulterior motives, and selfish intents, all seeking to devour the innocence of our teens. Our youth are now being targeted and recruited within the one place where they should be free to develop into powerful men and women of God.

Young men will become the options they’re presented, whether negative or positive. As parents, our challenge is to control their exposure, even the environment they’re exposed to within the church. Controlling their exposure does not mean to limit it, but rather to play a major role in the lifestyle and career path of your teenage son.

Choir directors / ministers of music are very luminous personalities by design whom often receive a tremendous amount of accolades and compliments for their performances. To a very impressionable teen who struggles to get acknowledgments and compliments, they can very easily conclude that the flamboyant behavior of the choir director is the best way to get noticed, even if he’s gay.

The intent of this article is to come across exactly how it reads without the sugarcoating. We have to protect our teens from men within the congregation who would like to add to them to the rosters of alternative lifestyles.

As a pastor, taking a stand against gay marriage also means taking a stand against gay musicians. If you would not officiate a marriage ceremony of a lesbian couple, then don’t sign the pay check of your gay minister of music. When you endorse the pay check of one of your down low staff members you are also endorsing his behavior, and his actions.

Sit Him Down!

We are losing our young men because we have failed to challenge those who refuse to change. Yes, it is their right to be gay, but not in my church!

As the pastor, you have to walk right up to the individual that you feel is influencing the youth of your congregation, and sit him down.

There is no gray area or middle ground, if your choir director / minister of music is effeminate then you are responsible for every young man in your congregation that is recruited into the gay lifestyle due to the influence of his position. Sit him down immediately, which means today.

If you’re sitting on the Board of one of these congregations, then you too are responsible for the presentation of your ministry, sit him down!

I will no longer treat the gay choir director as if it’s all too much about nothing; it’s all too little about something extremely important. Church is not a place that a young man should go only to learn how to act like a woman. Before iron can sharpen iron there has to be the presence of iron within your congregation. The examples that our young men need to absorb are those of real men of God or as my grandmother would call them “Manish Men.”

And no, it is not always easy to sit someone down who is committed and faithful to the ministry, but as pastor you’re not planted for the glitz & glamour, but for the grunt. Don't allow your ministry to succumb to the same level of filth as the GMCA (Gospel Music Workshop of America) which has become nothing more then a "hookup" convention for gay choir directors, and choir members.

Do your job, and protect the borders of your church from the gay culture, which is the sole responsibility of the Shepard/Pastor. To Protect!!!

Rom. 1:26-28,

26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural,

27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.

HUSBAND DECAPITATES WIFE IN THE STREET-LEAVES CHAINSAW RUNNING

A routine mail route came to a gruesome end for one Dallas-area mail carrier, when he found the decapitated body of a woman lying in the street Monday. Police identified her as Maria Corona, and said they believe her husband, Jose Fernando Corona (above), is responsible, and have issued a warrant for his arrest.

Responding officers from the Lewisville Police Department reported finding two chainsaws at the scene, one of which was still running, with blood and tissue matter nearby. A bloody trail led from Corona's headless body to the doorway of the home.

"I saw somebody [lying] on the ground with blood all over. And I saw a girl outside screaming and somebody trying to hold her back," neighbor Chris Cortopassi, who returned home Monday afternoon to the grisly scene, told CBS affiliate KTVT.

The girl she describes is believed to be the couple's oldest daughter Carla Corona, who arrived at the scene shortly after the police arrived, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Carla Corona's husband, Freddie Arellano, told authorities that Jose Corona had called a few minutes earlier to say that he "had done it, he had killed her and was going to drag her body next door," according to the arrest affidavit.

Police believe Jose Corona fled the scene in his 2005 Toyota Sequoia SUV, but he allegedly stopped at a used car lot and asked to test drive a 1991 Ford Ranger and never returned.

Police: Florida Man, 78, Allegedly Kills Wife, 21, Then Shoots Himself In Port St. Lucie

The brutal murder of young bride by her much older husband, who then killed himself, has sent shockwaves through Port St. Lucie, Fla. -- where many neighbors didn't even know the deceased were a couple.

The bloodshed began in the middle of the night last Saturday when a 78-year-old man apparently shot his wife, who was 21 years old. Before turning the pistol on himself, the husband called a neighbor to say he'd murdered his spouse. He asked her to pick up his dead wife's daughter because he was about to set the house on fire, according to TV station WPTV.

There were at least two 911 calls that night that have been released; one from the neighbor who ventured into the home around 1 a.m. to retrieve the 3-year-old girl, and the other from the husband, identified by some news outlets as Geunther Floerchinger, who told a dispatcher that he would allow someone to enter his home to pick up the toddler. Once the child was safe, he said he would end his own life.

When emergency responders arrived, the wife -- identified as Carhina Floerchinger -- was in a smokey bedroom that had been doused with gasoline. Police found her husband first behind the front door with burns on his body, according to TCPalm.com.

Some neighbors said they didn't know the couple was married because of the age gap between them. Others told TV station WPEC that they'd never seen the wife and her daughter at the house.

The Floerchingers' marriage was not a long one. Cachina was living in her native Philippines with her daughter when she met Geunther in an online dating website, according to WPTV. They lived in the Port St. Lucie home for about one year.

Vesta Williams was a true talent

Vesta Williams was a true talent but she was overshadowed by Stephanie Mills, Phyllis Hyman, Anita Baker, Angela Winbush and Whitney Houston.

Vesta had a great sense of humor and she was down to earth. She would playfully antagonize and tease. The only person she refused to clown-Whoopi Goldberg! Vesta told Donnie Simpson: "I wouldn't take on Whoopi, she's quick witted!"

Vesta was well liked and respected in the industry.

Despite Bruce Willis being a staunch Republican, he dated Vesta and other black women. It's even rumored that his friend Don Johnson was allegedly dating one of the Pointer Sisters at the same time. Johnson was also linked to actress Lynn Whitfield.

Unbeknownst to Vesta, a gay hustler and bathhouse regular appeared in her video "Once Bitten, Twice Shy." After the shoot, he returned to L.A. and told everyone, "I love me some Miss Vesta, she is the truth and one of the nicest people in the industry!" He would later die of AIDS and willed his Vesta (album collection) to his sister.


Vesta Williams, the diva known for her powerful voice and 80's hits, was found dead in her California hotel room last night, according to reports. Though news sources have reported the singer was 48 years old, Williams can be seen in a 2010 interview saying she was 53.

TMZ is reporting that bottles of prescription pills were found in the hotel room, and that the authorities are treating the singer's death as an accident or suicide.

Williams scored a big hit with "Congratulations," a song about a woman who is distraught upon learning that her former lover is getting married. "Congratulations," with its vocal acrobatics and dramatic story, became a talent show staple.

Jackeé Harry, the television actress, tweeted her condolences about the singer's passing.

"...just received truly devastating news: R&B great, and my friend of many yrs, Vesta Williams (@vesta4u), has passed away. #RIPVesta"

Williams portrayed Harry's sister on the sitcom, "Sister, Sister." She also appeared in the movie western "Posse" as a lounge singer.

In the 1990s, Williams made headlines for her dramatic weight loss. She told Ebony that she started to rapidly gain weight when her singing career began to falter. Williams, who was 5-foot-3, eventually reached a size 26. She said her size was the reason she lost her recording contract.

"When I lost my record deal and my phone wasn't ringing, I realized that I had to reassess who Vesta was and figure out what was going wrong," she said. "I knew it wasn't my singing ability. So it had to be that I was expendable because I didn't have the right look."

The singer went on to lose 100 lbs, and got down down to a size 6, while finding something of a second career as a songwriter and session singer.

In recent years, Williams had become an advocate for the prevention of childhood obesity and juvenile diabetes.

Pentagon declined to investigate hundreds of purchases of child pornography

A 2006 Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigation into the purchase of child pornography online turned up more than 250 civilian and military employees of the Defense Department -- including some with the highest available security clearance -- who used credit cards or PayPal to purchase images of children in sexual situations. But the Pentagon investigated only a handful of the cases, Defense Department records show.

The cases turned up during a 2006 ICE inquiry, called Project Flicker, which targeted overseas processing of child-porn payments. As part of the probe, ICE investigators gained access to the names and credit card information of more than 5,000 Americans who had subscribed to websites offering images of child pornography. Many of those individuals provided military email addresses or physical addresses with Army or fleet ZIP codes when they purchased the subscriptions.

In a related inquiry, the Pentagon's Defense Criminal Investigative Service (DCIS) cross-checked the ICE list against military databases to come up with a list of Defense employees and contractors who appeared to be guilty of purchasing child pornography. The names included staffers for the secretary of defense, contractors for the ultra-secretive National Security Agency, and a program manager at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. But the DCIS opened investigations into only 20 percent of the individuals identified, and succeeded in prosecuting just a handful.

The Boston Globe first reported the Pentagon's role in Project Flicker in July, citing DCIS investigative reports (PDF) showing that at least 30 Defense Department employees were investigated.

But new Project Flicker investigative reports obtained by The Upshot through the Freedom of Information Act, which you can read here, show that DCIS investigators identified 264 Defense employees or contractors who had purchased child pornography online. Astonishingly, nine of those had "Top Secret Sensitive Compartmentalized Information" security clearances, meaning they had access to the nation's most sensitive secrets. All told, 76 of the individuals had Secret or higher clearances. But DCIS investigated only 52 of the suspects, and just 10 were ever charged with viewing or purchasing child pornography. Without greater public disclosure of how these cases wound down, it's impossible to know how or whether any of the names listed in the Project Flicker papers came in for additional scrutiny. It's conceivable that some of them were picked up by local law enforcement, but it seems likely that most of the people flagged by the investigation did not have their military careers disrupted in the context of the DCIS inquiry.
among those charged were Gary Douglass Grant, a captain in the Army Reserves and a judge advocate general, or military prosecutor. After investigators executing a search warrant found child pornography on his computer, he pleaded guilty last year to state charges of possession of obscene matter of a minor in a sexual act in California. Others included contractors for the NSA with Top Secret clearances; one of them -- a former contractor -- fled the country after being indicted and is believed to be in Libya.

But the vast majority of those investigated, including an active-duty lieutenant colonel in the Army and an official in the office of the secretary of defense, were never charged. On top of that, 212 people on ICE's list were never investigated at all.

According to the records, DCIS prioritized the investigations by focusing on people who had security clearances -- since those who have a taste for child pornography can be vulnerable to blackmail and espionage. The documents show that the probe then concentrated on people who had been previously suspected of or convicted of sex crimes, or had access to children as part of their Defense Department duties. But at least some of the people on the Project Flicker list with security clearances were never pursued and could possibly remain on the job: DCIS only investigated 52 people, and 76 of those on the Project Flicker list had clearances.

A DCIS spokesman didn't return phone calls. But the agency's own documents obtained via The Upshot's FOIA request indicate that the decision to press investigations forward hinged largely on questions of the resources available to the investigators. "Due to DCIS headquarters' direction and other DCIS investigative priorities, this investigation is cancelled" is a common summation in the files.

A source familiar with the Project Flicker investigations -- who requested anonymity because public disclosure could jeopardize this person's job -- confirmed that departmental resources, and priorities, were decisive factors in letting inquiries lapse.

DCIS is primarily tasked with rooting out contractor fraud and investigating security breaches; its 400 staffers were already plenty busy before Project Flicker dropped 264 more names onto their caseloads. And child pornography investigations are difficult to prosecute. Many judges wouldn't issue search warrants based on years-old evidence saying the targets subscribed to a kiddie porn website once.

"We were stuck in a situation where we had some great information, but didn't have the resources to run with it," the source told The Upshot. Many of the investigative reports obtained by The Upshot end with a similar citation of scarce resources:

Of course, other federal agencies, including ICE and the FBI, may have prosecuted some of the Project Flicker names the DCIS ignored. But that's unlikely, given that some of the DCIS investigations were closed due to lack of cooperation from ICE.

In one case, involving an Army Reserve corporal in the Pittsburgh area, a DCIS agent expressed exasperation after repeatedly trying to get ICE to collaborate with him on the investigation: "Based upon the complete non-responsiveness of ICE ... it is recommended that [the] matter be closed."

As for the 212 Project Flicker names that DCIS didn't investigate, the source familiar with the investigation said there was no systematic effort to inform their superiors or commanding officers of their suspected purchases of child pornography.

Operation Mountain Guardian: Simulated Terrorism In Denver Friday

More than 100 agencies from several different jurisdictions are taking part in a terrorism attack drill on Friday, the largest ever performed in Denver. The mock terror drill, Operation Mountain Guardian, will simulate four coordinated terrorist attacks in the Denver metro area, according to Fox31. Operation Mountain Guardian is modeled after the tragic Mumbai, India terrorist incident from Nov., 2008.

According to 7News, the drill will be conducted in 10 different locations around the Denver metro area including:

Smedley Elementary School
Denver Union Station
Community College of Aurora (Lowry Campus)
Denver International Airport
Sky Ridge Medical Center
University of Colorado Hospital
Catholic Charities (NW Denver)
Sports Authority Field at Mile High

Denver metro residents need not be alarmed by the test of regional response during a terrorist-driven catastrophic scenario which will include simulated weapons, smoke, emergency vehicles and other emergency response sights and sounds throughout the day, CBSDenver reports.

However, it may be difficult to remember that this is just a practice, as Westword reports that the "victims" will even be adorned with fake blood and wounds.

Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said to CBSDenver that there is no immediate concern about terrorism in the Denver metro area, this is just a test of preparedness.




The exercise is scheduled to begin at 0500 hours and end by 1630 hours.

NEWS ADVISORY: Operation Mountain Guardian (continued)





ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND



Operation Mountain Guardian is a terrorism-based full-scale exercise sponsored by the North Central All-Hazards Emergency Management Region, Denver Urban Area Security Initiative, and Front Range Metropolitan Medical Response System. The exercise is a Homeland Security Grant funded event made possible due to grant funding from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through FEMA Region VIII and the State of Colorado Governor’s Office of Homeland Security.



The North Central All-Hazards Emergency Management Region is one of nine emergency preparedness and response Regions within the State of Colorado. The North Central Region (NCR) is organized around ten counties: Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Clear Creek, Denver, Douglas, Elbert, Gilpin and Jefferson.



One purpose of the NCR is to improve Region-wide emergency preparedness, response and homeland security capabilities through coordinated planning, training and exercise efforts. This exercise is evidence of the growing public safety partnership between regional emergency response agencies.



Operation Mountain Guardian is part of a Regional Training and Exercise Plan established in 2009. Planning for Operation Mountain Guardian began in January 2010 and has included several building-block events designed to prepare responders to effectively participate in the full-scale exercise.



The overall Operation Mountain Guardian exercise objectives are:



1. Communications: Assess the ability to establish and maintain multi-agency and multi-jurisdictional communications in response to a terrorism incident.



2. Hazmat Response and Decontamination: Evaluate the capability to coordinate multiple hazmat response teams and assess their ability to perform initial response actions.



3. Public Safety & Security Response: Evaluate the ability to establish scene security and crime scene preservation, coordinate a multi-jurisdictional response, and manage intelligence information in order to mitigate the effects of the event.



4. Explosive Device Response Operations: Evaluate the capability to manage and coordinate explosive device response operations using regional bomb squad teams.



5. Onsite Incident Management: Evaluate the ability to implement the Incident Command System (ICS) and establish multi-jurisdictional command and control.



6. Triage and Pre-Hospital Treatment: Examine the ability of EMS to provide effective pre-hospital emergency medical care in response to a terrorism incident.



7. Medical Surge: Evaluate medical surge capability at area hospitals.



While Operation Mountain Guardian is primarily a Homeland Security Grant funded exercise, the event will also rely heavily on local government emergency response agencies, military organizations, volunteer organizations as well as local charitable organizations.

Suspected drug traffickers drove two trucks to a main avenue in a Mexican Gulf coast city and dumped 35 dead bodies during rush hour while gunmen stood guard and pointed their weapons at frightened motorists.

The gruesome scene in downtown Boca del Rio yesterday was the latest escalation in drug violence in Veracruz state, which sits on an important route for drugs and Central American migrants heading north.

Veracruz state Attorney General Reynaldo Escobar Perez said the bodies were left piled in two trucks and on the ground at an underpass near the city's biggest shopping mall and its statue of the Voladores de Papantla - ritual dancers from Veracruz state.

According to some reports there were 12 women among the dead.

Police have identified seven of the victims so far and all had criminal records for murder, drug dealing, kidnapping and extortion and were linked to organised crime, Escobar said. He didn't say to what group the victims belonged.

Motorists caught in the horrifying scene posted message on Twitter warning that masked gunmen in military uniforms were blocking Manuel Avila Camacho Boulevard and pointing their guns at civilians.

They don't seem to be soldiers or police,' one tweet read. Another said: 'Don't go through that area, there is danger.'

Escobar said police were reviewing surveillance video recorded in the area.

Local media said that 12 of the victims were women and that some of the dead men had been among prisoners who escaped from three Veracruz prisons on Monday, but Escobar said he couldn't confirm that.

At least 32 inmates escaped from the three Veracruz prisons. Police recaptured 14 of them.

Earlier yesterday, the Mexican army announced it had captured a key figure in the cult-like Knights Templar drug cartel that is sowing violence in western Mexico.

Saul Solis Solis, 49, a former police chief and one-time congressional candidate, was captured without incident on Monday in the cartel's home state of Michoacan, Brigadier General Edgar Luis Villegas said during a presentation of Solis to the media.

Solis is considered to be one of the principal lieutenants in the Knights Templar, which split late last year from La Familia, a pseudo-religious drug gang known as a major trafficker of methamphetamine.

Drug violence has claimed more than 35,000 lives across Mexico since 2006, according to government figures. Others put the number at more than 40,000.

In northern Mexico, the army announced the detention of two more suspects in a casino fire that killed 52 people last month in the northern city of Monterrey.

The two men captured at a bar in Monterrey late on Monday confessed to being members of the Zetas drug cartel and participating in the attack, federal prosecutors said.

Separately in Nuevo Leon, Mexican marines captured 19 alleged members of the Zetas drug cartel at a ranch that was being used as a training camp in the town of Colombia, the military announced.

A navy statement said that seven minors were among those detained and that marines seized four rifles, a pistol, and several military uniforms and boots.

A lawyer and his two sons were seriously injured after a car bomb exploded while they were driving to football practice on Tuesday.

The mysterious blast occurred when lawyer Erik G. Chappell was driving through Monroe, Michigan and their Volvo station wagon exploded.

The blast spewed fire and twisted metal across the four-lane road and black plumes of smoke billowed into the afternoon sky.

Local resident, Shawn Remington, 33, told the Detroit Free Press: 'It sounded like someone slamming a dumpster down. The car totalled out completely. The blast could be heard for miles.'

The car was left a smouldering, blackened shell as emergency crews rushed Mr Chappell and his sons to the hospital.

Mr Chappell was released today and his sons are in serious condition but expected to survive.

Another witness, Edwin Holly, 68, said: 'I was looking to see if there were deer and saw the car come around and go boom. Things like that don't happen, unless you're in James Bond or something, you know? I mean that car just blew up.'

Mr Holly said he ran toward the car to try to help, spotting a football helmet lying beside the road as he ran.

'On the north side of the road were two little boys. One kept complaining because his foot hurt real bad, the other was complaining because his buttocks hurt real bad.'

Emergency crews rushed to the scene and extinguished the blaze, leaving the car a smouldering, blackened shell.

Donald Dawkins, a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, told reporters today that the bomb was placed in the centre of the car. He did not provide details about the device.


He described the attack as a heinous crime and said that the three passengers of the car were lucky to be alive.

'When you have children involved, it really hits home', he said.

Mr Chappell's colleagues in the legal community described him as a hard-working attorney who focused on business disputes and family law.

'I have no idea why someone would want to do this,' attorney Daniel McQuade, who had opposed Mr Chappell in a divorce case, told the Free Press. 'He was very good to work with. We always got along fine.'

A $10,000 reward has been offered for any information about the bomber.

Mr Chappell was scheduled to appear at 2:30pm Tuesday in federal court in Detroit for a conference in a lawsuit.

He represents hot dog stand owners who are suing the city of Monroe for banning their carts from downtown.

Over 30,000 British schoolchildren, some as young as three, have had their names registered on a government database and branded “racist” or “homophobic” for using playground insults, infractions that could impact their future careers.

The shocking figures were disclosed after civil liberties group the Manifesto Club made a Freedom of Information Act request which betrayed the fact that kids who used petty jibes are now being treated as thought criminals by education authorities.

34,000 incidents of “racism” in total were reported for the year 2009-2010, with nursery school toddlers as young as three being put on a state database for using the words “gay” and “lesbian”. One child who called another “broccoli head” was also reported to authorities. Other cases included a child who used the word “gaylord,” while another who told a teacher “this work is gay,” was also added to the thought crime database.

The majority of the reported cases involved primary school children.

“The record can be passed from primaries to secondaries or when a pupil moves between schools,” reports the Daily Mail.


“And if schools are asked for a pupil reference by a future employer or a university, the record could be used as the basis for it, meaning the pettiest of incidents has the potential to blight a child for life.”

Schools are being pressured to report such incidents to authorities and face punishments for not doing so under anti-bullying policies.

This is a clear example of how hate crime laws have brazenly been hijacked by the state to get children institutionalized on criminal databases at an early age. This is about the state dictating what your child can think and say – it’s the thought police on steroids.

Orwell talked about the state reducing language via Newspeak in his book 1984. By eliminating the very words that come out of children’s mouths and punishing them for thinking certain thoughts, all critical thinking is ultimately abolished, and Big Brother assumes the supreme power to dictate reality – a dictatorship over our very minds.

Jobless Claims, Inflation Rise, Manufacturing Gets Weaker

Applications for unemployment benefits continued to rise in the past week, while inflation pushed higher and a key manufacturing index weakened.


The weekly jobless claims number, which is closely watched as an indicator for employment trends, unexpectedly rose 11,000 to 428,000, well ahead of estimates of 411,000.

The consumer price index, meanwhile, gained 0.4 percent when including volatile food and energy prices, after an increase of 0.5 percent in July. The so-called core CPI, though, gained 0.2 percent, which was in line with expectations.

Consumers paid more for a range of goods and services last month, pushing up inflation and squeezing Americans' purchasing power.

For the 12 months ending in August, the core index surged 2 percent, the biggest year-over-year increase in nearly three years. That's at the top end of the Federal Reserve's informal inflation [cnbc explains] target. It could limit the central bank's ability to take further steps to try to revive the economy.

Food prices rose 0.5 percent, the biggest increase since March. That was due to higher prices for cereals and dairy products. Energy costs increased 1.2 percent.

"The large CPI gain in the face of weakening confidence, slowing consumer spending and softening production provides a poor backdrop for expansion," said Citigroup economist Steven C. Wieting in a note to clients.

Other indicators from a major government data release this moring also were not not encouraging: New York manufacturing activity contracted in September for the fourth consecutive month.

Also, the US current account deficit narrowed unexpectedly to $118 billion in the second quarter from a revised $119.6 billion in the first quarter as exports hit a record high.


As a percentage of gross domestic product, the current account deficit—which measures the flow of goods, services and investments in and out of the US—narrowed to 3.1 percent in the second quarter from 3.2 percent in the first quarter.

Exports of goods and services rose to $716.7 billion, eclipsing the previous high set in the second quarter of 2008.

Economists had been expecting the current account gap to widen to $122.5 billion from a previously reported $119.3 billion.

Jobs Market Languishing

The number of people applying for unemployment benefits jumped last week to the highest level in three months.

Applications have been rising over the past month, a signal that the job market remains depressed.

Applications typically drop during short work weeks, as was the case with the Labor Day observation. In this case, applications didn't drop as much as the department expected, so the seasonally adjusted value rose. A Labor spokesman said the total wasn't affected by Hurricane Irene.

Still, applications appear to be trending up. The four-week average, a less volatile measure, rose for the fourth straight week to 419,500.

Applications need to fall below 375,000 to indicate that hiring is increasing enough to lower the unemployment rate. They haven't been below that level since February.

The economy added zero net jobs in August, the worst showing since September 2010. The unemployment rate stayed at 9.1 percent for the second straight month.

The job figures were weak because companies hired fewer workers and not because they stepped up layoffs, economists said. Business and consumer confidence fell last month after a series of events renewed recession fears.

The government reported that the economy barely grew in the first half of the year. Lawmakers fought over raising the debt ceiling. Standard & Poor's downgraded long-term U.S. debt for the first time in history. Stocks tumbled—the Dow lost nearly 16 percent of its value from July 21 through Aug. 10.

Businesses added only 17,000 jobs in August, which was a sharp drop from 156,000 in July. Government cut 17,000 jobs. Combined, total net payrolls did not change.

Unemployment benefit applications are considered a measure of the pace of layoffs.

The total number of people receiving benefits dipped 12,000 to 3.73 million, the third straight decline. But that doesn't include about 3.4 million additional people receiving extended benefits under emergency programs put in place during the recession. All told, about 7.14 million people received benefits for the week ending Aug. 27, the latest data available.

More jobs are desperately needed to fuel faster economic growth. Higher employment leads to more income. That boosts consumer spending, which accounts for about 70 percent of economic growth.

Higher gas and food prices have cut into their buying power this year. The economy expanded at an annual rate of just 0.7 percent, the slowest growth since the recession officially ended two years ago.

The weakness has raised pressure on the Federal Reserve and the White House to take steps to boost economic growth.

Many economists expect they will decide at its meeting next week to shift money out of short-term mortgage-backed securities and into longer-term Treasury bonds. The move could push down longer-term interest rates, including rates on mortgages, auto loans and other consumer and business borrowing.

President Barack Obama has proposed a $447 billion job-creation package. He wants to cut Social Security taxes for workers, extend unemployment benefits, cut taxes for small businesses and spend more federal money to build roads, bridges and other public works projects.

Republicans oppose the president's plan, particularly after he said he wants to pay for it with higher taxes on wealthier households, hedge fund managers and oil companies.
